Is there anything that makes Maybe for the Summer special to you?
The entire book is special. From writing it completely in 30 days, to the complexity of the storyline and highlighting trauma, healing and black love in its fullness withholding nothing.
How long did it take you to write Maybe for the Summer?
30 days on the nose I believe.
What do you hope readers take away from this story?
I hope they take that love can be healing and freeing and apply whatever lessons they received from this book to their lives for the better.
What was the most challenging part of writing this book?
Writing it in full detail in 30 days as a full-length novel.
What kind of research did you do for this book, if any?
I research the aspects of PTSD.
Are there any real-life experiences or people that inspired your characters or plot?
I’ve seen and experienced depression up close and personal. I’ve also watched others matriculate through their freedom journey from substance abuse. So Julius got to hold that weight and we explored his journey of healing together.
What’s the most surprising thing you have learned about yourself while writing books?
That I can actually do this. Haha. That I am as amazing and as brilliant as God told me I am. But most importantly I’m His vessel.
If you could tell the readers anything about you, what would it be?
I’m a unicorn lol.
What authors or books have influenced your writing the most?
A. House taught me how to pace a book. Kennedy Ryan taught me how to paint the story on a canvas to make it beautiful. Takerra Allen taught me not to shy away from the emotion/heaviness of the story.
What’s one book or genre you’d love to explore that’s outside your usual comfort zone?
Paranormal and fantasy. I’m dropping easter eggs to pay attention
How do you unwind when you’re not writing?
I’m not sure what unwind means? Ha! I’ve started watching TV which only gives me more ideas so I go back to writing lol.
